What a Delight! Durban Launch for Gender, Modernity and Indian Delights

Indian Delights - Launch Invite

Gender, Modernity and Indian Delights: The Women's Cultural Group of Durban, 1954-2010HSRC Press cordially invites you to join us for the launch of Gender, Modernity & Indian delights: The Women’s Cultural Group of Durban, 1954–2010 by Goolam Vahed and Thembisa Waetjen at Exclusive Books in Westwood, Durban.

Through a blend of scholarly rigour and compelling biography, this book reveals how a group of women, who were formally excluded from both political and customary power, nevertheless forged a vibrant citizenship and public life for themselves in South Africa. In the midst of unfolding global and local transformation – apartheid, feminism, doctrinal shifts in Islam – the members of the Women’s Cultural Group were themselves agents of change, not only within the local communities that benefited from their proficient and varied labours, but in the making of South African modernity.

We look forward to welcoming you at the launch!

Oh, I've been waiting many years for someone to write this book. Extra special bonus is that the PDF is available for download (free!) at HSRC Press (only 4MB):

Delighted that the delights have at last been rounded up between the covers of a book (also love HRSC Press's free downloads). Any chance of a Cape Town launch...
